Description

E-Codes are municipal codes presented in electronic format, available via the Internet. Searches may be performed specific to an individual Code or across multiple Codes within the General Code library.

How To Begin

Enter the keywords or phrases you wish to look for in the search field at the top of the screen.

Select the Code(s) you would like to search for information: highlight the name of the municipality you are interested in. To highlight more than one municipality name, hold down the Control key on your keyboard as you click on the titles you want to search.

Choose the type of search(es) you wish to make: to the right of the municipality names, four types of search options are offered (Fuzzy, Root Word, Phonic and Natural Language).

Fuzzy: A fuzzy logic search will find the keywords you are looking for even if they are misspelled. For instance, a fuzzy search for "lisenses" will also find "licenses." Fuzzy searches are helpful if the text contains typographical errors, or if you are unsure how to spell a word.

Root Word: The root word option looks for words that have the same ‘stem’ as the word you entered in the search field. For example, entering the word "license" and performing a root word search will return results including "licenses," "licensing," "licensed", etc.

Phonic: A phonic search looks for a word that sounds like the keyword you are searching for and begins with the same letter. An example would be searching for "guarantee." The search results would include "guaranty" as well. If you are using multiple keywords, you can limit the phonic search to a single word by using the pound (#) character in front of it. For instance, if you are searching for "bond" and "guarantee", you can limit the phonic search for the second word by keying "bond #guarantee" in the search field.

Natural Language: A natural language search allows the user to enter "natural" conversational phrases rather than just keywords. This means that you can ask such questions as "how much do dog licenses cost?" Results are weighted by the number of times the words in your search question appear within the chapters.

Click on the Go button to begin the search.
